Hi. I need your help.
I have this short, funny, and informative book I wrote about your privacy and data. How your data is used, who’s abusing it, and what you can do about it.
If you want a free .pdf of the text version of the privacy, just text me the word SHEETROCK to 646-331-8341. (Yes. That’s my actual phone number.)
My ask doesn’t involve the print edition though.
My ask involves you purchasing the audiobook, as narrated by the supremely talented narrator, Roger Wayne. Roger is known for reading 2017’s Non-fiction bestseller, “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck” and makes me 20% funnier than I actually am in this book.
(Note: There’s also a free version, with commercials, of the audiobook out there as a podcast on iTunes and Stitcher if you want to check that out instead. Just search for B.J. Mendelson and it’ll come up. If you rather not spend the money, you can stop reading here.)
Why Am I Asking For You To Buy This Audiobook?
As much as I have issues with Amazon, the royalty rate for a book purchased on Audible is really good. It’s about $8 that I get at the end of the month if you purchase the book for $14.95.
If you go and register for an Audible account and download my book first, I get about $24.
I’d like you to buy a copy of the audiobook on Audible because doing so will directly fund the Patriot Girl animated short I’m working on.
If I can sell 5,000 copies of the audiobook, that’ll put together more than enough money to put the three minute animated pitch together for the show.
(You can, and I hope, will, leave a review for the audiobook on Audible as well, but authors aren’t supposed to solicit reviews. So all I can say is that I hope you take a moment to do so if the mood strikes you.)
What Is Patriot Girl?
First, Patriot Girl is just a working title. I should be clear on that. But the show itself is centered around a team of high school girls from all over the world who are placed in charge of giant robots for nebulous reasons. The best way I can describe the show to you, right now anyway, is that it’s the ’90s Sailor Moon meets The Big O. (Although if you don’t watch anime, I should say the show is closer to Sailor Moon meets The Matrix because more of you are probably familiar with that than The Big O.)
If you follow me on Twitter at @BJMendelson, or have read any of my books and comics, you’ll know my sense of humor and viewpoint on things. Patriot Girl is more of that but done as an anime with the intention of being pitched to a streaming service or cable channel.
In order to get to that phase of pitching the series, we need to have an animated short ready to show people.
The funding raised from sales of The End of Privacy will ALL go toward funding the Patriot Girl animated short. So if you want this thing to exist, all you have to do is purchase the audiobook or join Audible and download the book first as part of your new membership with them.
This blog, going into 2019, will focus on updates involving the writing, production, and behind the scenes of the making of Patriot Girl. I’ll be setting up a separate blog for my marketing stuff soon.
So, that’s my ask. Buy a copy of the funny (but educational!) privacy book, either for yourself or a friend, and help make Patriot Girl happen.
